In many ways, his philosophy of joyful, sensual, aware living has changed my life. But this book really worked me over. Also the author includes a lot of disarmingly honest stories about himself, and the struggles he has experienced with communication, and some of them are hysterically funny. It is so refreshing to hear such authenticity, and to really get to know an author personally, at least a little bit. I think the whole world should read this book.
There are many books on the market that offer help like this BUT this book really does deliver! It is insightful with every page.

The material builds and flows in such a way as to make the material and ideas stay in ones' mind with ease. The book is full of wisdom, also full of wit -- and the story of transforming oneself into a master connector is built for us brick by brick and delights us too. We move from topic to topic easily because Gelb structures the core ideas and sequences them so well.
When Michael Gelb uses the word Leader in the subtitile he is not just referring to some corporate executive, but he is talking to YOU. Whether you are a stay at home mother juggling the demands of the family and house or whether you are a high school graduate figuring out your way in the world or you are a business owner, teacher, friend, or anybody who has ever had contact with another human being this book is for you! We are all leaders in our own right, because we have the ability to uplift and impact the ones we are around A defining characteristic of humans is how intricate, complex, subtle, meaningful and influential our relationships with other people are.
We depend upon one another not only for physical necessities, but for emotional, psychological and spiritual needs as well. We have our highest highs with other people and we have our lowest lows with them. We seem to be in a dilemma, where our biological imperative for self-preservation distorts and colors reality in these relatively and comparatively safe times not many saber tooth tigers chasing people!
This book can be the catalyst for transforming the way we look and connect with others. It has informed and inspired me to pay attention to this area of life that has so much value and potential. It is great to know that people like Gelb are out in the world working with some of the most pioneering, influential, and largest companies in the world.

At the same time he is humble and his concern and passion is with inspiring the individual to actualize their fullest potential. He is interested in revealing to people their innate and unique genius and then giving them the tools to express and share their gifts in service to the world. What you may be missing is the the ability to develop a good rapport with others. What is rapport you ask? Rapport is a lost art. So much time is spent in emotionless chat rooms or surfing social media websites that face to face communication has become uncomfortable for many. Rapport is something that can happen instantly, like in a "we just clicked" situation.
Or, rapport can be built slowly, like between leaders of a community and their constituents or new managers and their employees. Rapport is a comfortable feeling that any number of people involved in any type of situation share between them. It can be a romantic, business, or just a platonic friendship. It explains how to develop, sharpen, and put these skills to work for your advantage.
It is very well written and should help open the doors for the reader when it comes to face to face communication. Jun 16, Shana James rated it it was amazing.
